From the moment of being diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or other neuromuscular group diseases, Latvian patient doesn’t receive quality health care on his disease. Until now, it was simply not possible to get it anywhere. In September 2016 the medical centre “ALS / MND MED” was opened under the guidance of the Doctor of Medical Science, Associate Professor Victoria Kenina (Viktorija Ķēniņa). The medical centre provides an opportunity to get modern, high-quality medical services from multiteam of experts, which makes possible to increase the length and quality of the patient’s life. A multiteam of specialists consisting of pulmonologist, rehabilitation specialist, psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, and a gastroenterologist under the leading of a neurologist (a specialist of ALS) is engaged in the treatment of movement, respiratory, swallowing, and speech disorders. Each patient should get a full range of medical services needed specifically by him to achieve the maximum effect. The budget of most families in Latvia, where there is a patient with ALS or other neuromuscular group disease, does not allow the patient to pay for the necessary complex of medical services. Your help is needed! Patients should be co-financed, and the cofinancement projects are organized and supervised by the Motus Vita Fonds. We thank you for your help!
